When I try to explain my “world” to people — both around here and elsewhere — I see their faces change. Their eyes turn into pinwheels. I once had a counselor who would occasionally stop talking and say, “You look as though I just began to speak Chinese. What happened?”

Even the unquestioning machines will complain: “Will not compute.”

The symbol system doesn’t exist. The links are missing. There are no words, no memory, no emotional connection.

This is what the Harvard profs and NY reporters see as stupidity. But from here, they seem to be speaking of the inscrutable. Protected and thus unknown.
